New York State Democratic Governor David Paterson recently stated that he would not seek to run a full term however he will not resign during the ten months that he has left. The news of his resignations came shorty after a scandal of one of his top aid, David Johnson, being involved in a domestic violence with a female and the state police paying "hush" money to the female to prevent any news from getting out. The New York Times has accused Johnson of wrongdoings in the past even though he has not been officially charged on his actions. Paterson however denies any accusation made against him, suspended the aide accused in this case without pay, and has said that he looks forward to a full investigation of the case.
The large and populous state of New York is feeling the heat of the poor economy and a budget crisis and Paterson has stated that he can't run for office and be able to manage all of these financial problems. New York, the home of Wall Street, has gained attention of other officials due to its financial problems. Paterson who came into office after the scandals surrounding Eliot Spitzer caused him to resign, appeared on CNN and claimed that the New York Times used stories of Johnson during his teenage years against him and wrongfully blew the story out of proportion and stated that he believed individuals should be given a second chance. Whatever the reason, the news of Governor Paterson not seeking reelection is giving room to other officials who believe they have the knowledge on how to improve New York's financial problems.
