There is a lot of controversy occurring in regards to the oil spill that is still leaking in the Gulf of Mexico. The Obama administration is being accused of not conducting adequate scientific research with the extent of the damage. Instead they allowed BP to examine it which some may say is an opportunity for them to make it sound less terrible than it is. In reality BP hasn't allowed any equipment to the ocean floor in order to determine the total amount of oil spilled. Scientists are worried about what is happening in the deeper water and are baffled that there haven't been any results released to the public as to how much oil has been spilled. The Environmental Protection Agency seems to be the only group that are conducting any significant research concerning the oil spill.
Many people believe this is Obama's "Hurricane Katrina" and it will be a huge disaster that he won't be able to handle. In comparison to Hurricane Katrina, I feel like this oil spill has now been put on the back burner and not an issue that was as tramatic as the hurricane. Only the environmentalists have a tremendous problem with oil spills and will fight for safe cleanup and will protest against offshore drilling. Obama is certainly going to have a tough time come election season when his opponents ask him of his offshore drilling support.
