Today in the Senate, something was finally agreed upon. The country is in need of employment, and by passing a bill that gives tax breaks to businesses that are willing to hire, we may get what we’ve been asking for. In a vote of 68 to 29, 11 Republicans pushed the vote forward and got the bill onto the desk of the President.
Democrat Charles Schumer calls this action a legislative dream, while Republican Judd Gregg believes this jobs bill to actually be a “debt bill”. Even if both statements have some truth to them, our country is in dire need of jobs and any type of employment. This bill gives an exemption from payroll taxes through the end of 2010 on workers hired that have been unemployed for at least sixty days. The federal highway construction program will also be extended. This will hopefully stimulate the economy and benefit our country in all the ways that are possible.
The passing of this bill has proved that our Senators are listening to the people they represent. If this small twinkle of hope can turn into something bigger, it is possible things might start getting done during this administration. But let's not get too carried away.
