After Hillary Clinton's leave, the new opening for New York's Senate seat has been pursued by Caroline Kennedy. Her decision was made after long debating with herself about whether she could handle both the pressure and the attention. Kennedy made calls to other political figures and Governor Paterson on NY confirmed her definite interest in pursuing the position.
She would like to talk about her interests and goals if she were chosen for the position to Gov. Paterson and Senator Charles Schumer.
Many Democrats have already questioned whether she is qualified enough for the job. Gov. Paterson declared that his conversation with Ms. Kennedy was simply informational. Since the conversation, Kennedy has reached out to other political figures.
Hillary Clinton stated that she will not leave her seat until she is definitely confirmed to be President-Elect Obama's Secretary of State. This won't be determined until January or February. Others to be considered for the position are Kirsten Gillibrand, the upstate district, Thomas R. Suozzi, the Nassau County chief executive, and Andrew M. Cuomo, the New York State attorney general.
